Have Google remove images from someone else's homepage

Before Google removes images from another website from the search results, you must first be sure whether Google can remove the image. Because only if the image meets certain guidelines for removing content, Google will do anything at all and delete the image from the search results.

This is the only way to ensure that no other websites can be harmed just because you don't like certain Google images.

Google's content removal policy

The first thing to mention is that Google will certainly not come up with the idea of deleting any images from the Google homepage on its own. This almost always requires someone to request the "removal of an image from Google search results".

Google will remove personal data upon request, for example, but only if Google believes that this data can be misused to do some kind of fraud with it. Information that may be removed by Google includes images of signatures, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, as well as social security numbers.

Not removed are things like birthdays or addresses and phone numbers.

In addition, Google reserves the right to decide on a case-by-case basis whether to remove images and content from search results. So if you want to delete images or other content from Google, you can try your luck with this form.

From the Google Images and Videos search, the following things are removed in principle: images and videos contain personal data, the sexual abuse of children is depicted or Google Images and Youtube videos violate valid copyright information.

For the following characteristics, Google has the option to exclude the images and videos from the Google search results:

  • Depiction of pornography

  • Images of cruelty to animals

  • Glorification of violence

  • Images of injuries and diseases

  • Pictures of dead people

  • Explicit depiction of human body parts

In all cases, however, it is still the case that Google makes the final decision as to whether or not to remove images that you do not want in the search results.

In the best case, you should consider beforehand whether it makes sense to put a picture on the web where you were, for example, at carnival in a crazy outfit or whether your neighbor really needs to know how many beer bottles were on the table in front of you at the last party. Only publish pictures that you can still be responsible for in a certain period of time and that don't put you in any kind of awkward position. Remember, the internet doesn't forget anything!

Why doesn't Google just remove images directly?

Google can remove images from the search results, but Google does not have access to your page or any other page. And as long as images are online on a website, these images can be found on the web. If not via Google, then via other search engines like Bing or Yahoo.

Remove Google images from own website

The image that you have uploaded to your own site can be deleted from Google Images search a bit easier. To do this, you need to log into your account and, of course, delete the image in the already uploaded images.

After that you should verify your website with Google Webmaster Tools. This will make sure that you really are the owner of the site and you also have sufficient permissions to let Google delete images and content.

Then go to the Webmaster Tools home page and click on the web page that contains the image you want to have removed from the search results pages.

In the menu on the left side there is a menu item Google Index, if you press it, a submenu with Remove URLs will appear. There you can make a new request for removal.

As soon as you have clicked on the button, you can enter the URL (the website address/link where you originally placed the image) here. However, you have to pay attention to the exact spelling, because Google distinguishes between upper and lower case. Only if the website address is really the same, Google can remove images or content from the search results. So if you originally had the image on the URL http://maxmustermann.de.tl/Ich-bin-ein-Text-mit-Bild.htm, then you must also enter exactly this address, because http://maxmustermann.de.tl/ich-bin-ein-text-mit-bild.htm will not find Google in the search results and can not remove this page.

As reason you can give three different possibilities, but only the first two are really relevant for you. Either your page should only disappear from the Google cache or your page should fly out of the Google cache and out of the search results and thus no longer be listed by Google.

Since it is often the case that Google should no longer display images and content because the content and images are outdated or you are embarrassed in the meantime and you want to delete your page anyway, then you simply have to go through the steps listed above and either delete your entire page, or the corresponding subpage, within the next 90 days, so that Google does not accidentally include the page in the Google index again.

It is more difficult if you have already deleted your free homepage and now want to remove images and content from Google. Here it is then simply wait and see. Since your page is no longer available, Google will notice this when you visit your page again and remove the content from the search results over time. But this can take time and we have no influence on it.
